First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

I could not believe it,but two of the blue egg chicks already have wing pin feathers. This has been something I've noticed with all the Saipan hybrids. They feather SUPER FAST

Are you keeping them a little cooler?

I move my chicks outside at about 5-7 days of age. I have an enclosed area that is 80 ish. The rest of their area is whatever the temp is. last night it was 10 degrees. I have their feed and water out in the cold area so they have to go out to eat and drink.

It forces them to feather out extremely fast.

I've got them in a plastic tote. I normally keep them inside for a week. They have a heat bulb at one end and the house stays at 65 year round.:) after that they go into a 4'x4' brooder for a week or two and then finally into the pen which has a 4'x16 open wire with a heat lamp in one end

I'd like for you to perhaps ship me one of your Saipan cock birds...Not kidding.
Turk, I no longer have any of the full bloods. The friend I sold them to said they are truly massive and STILL growing. If I was NPIP I'd gladly send you a hybrid or eggs. I can look for the number of the breeder I originally purchased my birds from.

He is a super nice college proffessor in Louisiana. He also sells eggs on eBay,and chicks off eBay. He has excellent hatches from the eggs shipped, according to people I've sent his way.

The guy I hatched the olive eggers for backed out. That suits me. I've decided I DON'T want to get rid of ANY OF THEM!! Wonder how the DW is going to react to another 100 chicks...maybe another 300....
