First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Thanks.

They are the hardest things to keep out. Where is the eagle or owl when I need them?

I am worried about my other coop, the one they are going into. but it is 100 yards from the igloo. However, my layers are only 30 feet away I hope their coop is tight enough.
Gotta wait until next payday to have handman install the 1/2" hardware cloth I bought. 3' tall. Walmart

G&B Mat 308200B 36 in x 50' 1/2 in Mesh Hardware Cloth
It's a 50' roll for $54. Shipped free

That is terrible Ralph! I dread the day that I lose a bird. It did think I spotted a hawk in my neighbor's tree two weeks ago. The vultures seem to have moved on and now the hawks are back. Grrr.

I just wanted Sunny to lay a white egg. That way I would know for sure that it was hers when I found it in the nest laying next to my tiny silkie's egg. My other hens slide into the silkie nest sometimes. Just last week I found a blue egg and a brown egg in there. I don't think it was Sunny's though. I think it was one of Buff Orpingtons that laid it there.
My Cobb 500's laid nice light eggs Probably like your Silkie

It's considered brown but very light.

WHAT A DAY!!! Picked up my Blosl White Plymouth Rock today and is he a stunner. Golly gee. Wish I had a camera. Sooooo regal. And white. Compared to my rather muddy birds. I don't have the sand bags down yet and this rain is unrelenting. The coop stays mostly dry in the middle. I'm buying bags of top soil and put around both coops and in springtime, I'll take the plastic off and try to mound the dirt up.
A lot of bending and carrying and pulling and I'm whupped.
So I'm sitting in my easy chair, feet propped up, computer in my lap, with a big glass of O.J. with SKKY infusion pineapple vodka. Delish!! It was my daughter's bottle (huge blue bottle), that she kept in the freezer. There's about 6 oz left and she was tired of it and wanted to know if I wanted it or she would throw it out. Are you kidding me? I don't throw out anything. And I never would throw out Vodka.

But I am going to enjoy it. Bourbon and coke is my usual tipple but I may just change it. With O.J. this has GOT to be healthier, right?
So my new boy is named "Larry". Huh uh. Gonna change it. Something manly. Guys, give me some suggestions.

EXCUSE ME?! She was going to THROW AWAY alcohol?! Silly girl.
I do believe you are currently enjoying a glass of nothing but vitamins and minerals! The picture of pure health in a glass!

Larry? Hmm. I will have to think a minute. My husband wanted to name our son "Sanchito" because he thought it was manly. Neither of us are Hispanic.
Maybe "Duke"? "Gator"?! "Thor"?
I will never have a rooster, so if I think of anything great I will let you know!

Hey, Duke is a contender. I love it. I was thinking Steel but Duke is better.

Yes, I feel healthier as we speak.

I got the 3 remaining chubbers moved...

They are NOT happy in their new home, I am.

I do not have any bantams..

You did describe my egg MM, It is very light cream color looks white next to colored eggs.

I have only

Barred Rocks
buff orpingtons (SP)
black australorps
EE
white rock
Delaware
RED Sex link
Black sex link
production reds
Dixie rainbows
And maybe a RIR

NO white layers most lay blue or brown

Throwing away a partial bottle of vodka is considered alcohol abuse in these parts, SHAME ON HER!

Linda I know you claim to have no alligators down there,,,,Do you have pink elephants?

I don't know. It all depends on how big my glass of vodka was.

Y'all know that I wasn't very happy with my Cobb 500 birds that I "rescued". I fed them fermented feed and they loved it. In fact, they love everything. I got rid of the rooster because he was so greedy and big. My fault entirely. I waaaay overfed them the first 10 days and they put on a pound or more. Even though I backed off, they are ruined probably as layers. I'm putting light out this week and we'll see. I'll be phasing these out over the next few months. But here is an article that might interest you about trace minerals for breeding roosters. It'll work for any breeding stock.

Looks like my little chubby rooster will die a virgin...dang...

He is upset with me anyways, probably would go on strike and refuse to do his duty. He is not happy about having to move to a new coop. I went to feed them this morning and they actually walked away from me and huddled in a corner instead of greeting me.
