First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Yesterday was a great day! Last year I bought an old Ford hay baler that looked in great shape. Sheet metal was solid and you could tell it was barn kept. Well when I first tried to use it one of the knotters was not working properly.
Ok this is where the language of a sailor came out of me. If anyone on here bales hay you know the feeling when the most important thing your machine must do doesn't do it! Tie a **** knott!!!!!
To make a long story short, over last year and messing with it this first cutting I figured out someone had replaced a part (sweeper arm) with an aftermarket part. Well this part was just not the right fit. So it took me about 2 weeks to find a salvage yard for farm equipment in PA that had the same baler. I sent them payment of my left arm and right .... Well we will just say it wasn't a cheap part seeings how they were the only ones that had the part and new it!!
I got the part cleaned it up put my baler back together timed it. I ran it yesterday and the thing ran flawless!!!!!! You are reading a post from a very very happy guy!!!
All I can say is CHEERS.....

I'll drink to that.... I wish I was happy here, I would be headed home then.

I think they saw me coming here, if I use the landfill I have to pay non-resident rates because the taxes support the landfill. I said I pay taxes here, I pay non-homestead taxes so I pay more than the residents do.... Does not matter......

At the very least they should change their justification for........... Well, you know.

All my cx meaties are in the freezer now. I'm going through much less feed too! :)

My birthday was yesterday :) I had a great day/night. I went to a social club and all my great friends were there, everyone had a great time, then it started hailing.

Then it hailed again this morning, it sounded like my windows were going to shatter. It decimated my garden.

Then the neighbor that hates my roosters and calls code enforcement went and weed wacked my un-ripened growing strawberry fruits in the rain. On purpose. I saw it and was like.. whaat is he doing now?!

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow morning? Putting up 1/2" hardware cloth around the perimeter. Have fun changing out your weed wacker strip 20 times every time you do it now strawberry murderer.

Linda- I'm so sorry you gave your birds up, but glad you're going to travel a bit!!

My broody white bresse killed 3 chicks this morning, so I took them away from her and now they are in the brooder box under the brinsea ecoglow50.

How does one get a neighbor to move? He rents. He's also been screaming at other neighbors, not just me. We've all noticed. So.. now, how to get it done. The rental housing market here is tight and viscous, a ton of people are dying to be my neighbor, for more money.

Hi everyone! Nothing new here. Just been crazy busy with the kids last week of school, soccer tournaments (my daughter is a natural super star, by the way...

), baseball for my son and getting the garden in order.

Oh, and loving on the chickens. My meaties are 7 weeks today. They look a bit smaller than the last round at 7 weeks. I know they are about to take off though. They will be butchered the last weekend of June.
I wanted to wait until early July, but we are so dang busy there isn't time. Then we are out of town for 2 weeks. I don't think the neighbor kid will take good enough care of my meatballs while we are gone, so end of June it is.

Glad everyone is well.
Linda- I am so sad for you. But Vancouver is beautiful in the summer!
Excellent work DK! I have no idea how to push out a neighbor.
Ralph- I'm with you, just stay home and raise poultry. I miss my birds when I have to leave. Yes, I am a crazy person.
AND, if ever you need a new home for JJ and Ethel... I am sure you know who to call. My hubby will let JJ eat corn on his shoulder.

Hi all I have been lurking here for awhile and thought I'd chime in for a change. DK glad you had a great birthday but sorry to here about your garden. At least it is still early enough to replant most things. As for your strawberry murdering neighbor I suggest you contact his landlord. If b you can get enough newborn to complain about him you might be able to convince the landlord not to renew his lease. I just got a new batch of meatier yesterday:) I have done two smaller batches from a local hatchery and not been impressed with the heartiness of their cx's. I attributed my losses last fall to inexperience and the cool weather but I had similar problems this spring so I decided to order from a whelp who has a good reputation for hearty fast growing cx's. Wish me luck with the new meatballs. All were looking good this morning:)

Schipmom- I'm getting a petition and affidavits signed by ALL NEIGHBORS in a 2 block radius to have him leave, calling his landlord with an offer from 10 different people with references for the property to rent THIS WEEKEND.

I'm sure his landlord is tired of him calling to complain all the time, because code enforcement is. :) The neighborhood is really excited and inspired by what we've been doing this past year. 4 people on my block alone have chickens, the same on other blocks. Raised garden beds are being built on several houses on EVERY BLOCK around us. We've been gifting neighbors plants for their gardens.

This neighbor has also been going off on other neighbors, his behavior erratic. No problems for 6 years until 5 months ago.. we've lived here longer though. :)

It looks like the plans are probably going through for buying the abandoned property next door to us :)

Double kindness, having had more than my share of troublesome neighbors . That are gone.:) I offer the following advice. Law enforcement is your friend. When he causes a disturbance, call them. If you see him leave while drinking, call them. If he is outside drinking and being an ***. Call them. No one is 100% law abiding at all times. Kill him with. Kindness. The law enforcement kind. If you familiarize yourself with your laws, codes and ordinances you will have a way to fight back most effectively. Stay safe

Hi Welcome,

Just wondering what hatchery?

I used Hoover twice and they were great. The birds were super. Cold does not really bother a CX after a couple weeks they do not do well in heat. Do not over feed is my only advice, they can metabolize air and water they are so keen to gain weighed! (well almost).

Your not too far from me so you should be able to get Hoover birds. I know others in Wi. use them. I need to get some CX's soon, but I am so busy not sure how many or when.

DK. Is this the same neighbor that you think poisoned your duck? We had a troublesome neighbor here a while back and I agree with JRNashes idea. But we all had to go a step further to get him out. Every time we called the law we also called our landlord and told her the police were there again and it was very troubling. After a few weeks she put him out. I'm glad you were able to go out and have a good time during all of this. Happy Birthday.
Well I finally think I have convinced my family that we got a batch of CX's instead of Leghorns. So we will process them at end of July. They will be about 18 weeks old by then. I wonder how big they will be by then. I am going to get some egg layers. And if all goes well with freezer camp. I want to get more meatballs too. Now just need to decide on a hatchery. Any suggestions?
Schipmom- Welcome. I'm new around here too.
