First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

I'm the oldest, and the best with tools. But I'm a girl. My dad got a girl who wanted to learn to plumb, roof, side, frame, wire, and work on cars, and a boy who is a great athlete, but not too interested in any of that. Luckily for me, my dad didn't care about boy or girl, and he taught me all the skills as best he knew.

JR - Do you out OCD Ralphie? He has boxes of rubber gloves all over his house. Haha! To be honest, I have several myself though. Some jobs require hand coverage! I don't understand why people think chicken coops are acceptable to be cheap and ugly. Our first chicken coop cost somewhere between $1200-$1500 because we wanted it to be really nice. Our mobile units for our chicken business cost well over $3000 each but they do house 400 chickens. We think about it as an investment that needs to last a really long time, not something that will be an eyesore in a year or two.

I'm like you Peep. Shop class was my favorite class in school. I loved every bit of it. I love to work alongside my hubby when we are building things. I remember the first time he learned that about me. He had a project to do and I went along with him. He said to me that I could go have a seat and watch. I told him oh no, give me a wrench and tell me what to do. I remember the changing emotions on his face from confusion, to bewilderment to realization and excitement in the course of 30 seconds. He'd finally found a partner and now everything built around here we do together. It's awesome!

Besides I'd way rather get my hands dirty creating something over shopping. I hate crowds and fakeness.

I am certainly living vicariously through you all this year since I won't get to have meaties. Maybe next year things will chill out and we can do them again. I truly enjoyed raising them. Our temps this year would have made it extremely difficult. The 80s that we are expecting this week and the bit of rain we had last night was absolutely welcomed!

Lol Jessica. I have a box of blue and a box natural tone latex gloves.I've had to many bad experiences with peppers. I just noticed that my Jersey Giants are feathering out as quickly as the toads and rocks. The Cornish are just a tad behind

Hahaha JR I forgot I wont be the biggest forever. I am 1 year older than him but am at least 3 inches taller than him. He is turning 13 on the 13th. I just realized it will be his golden birthday!! Those r so over rated. I'm probably just jealous because I wont have mine till I'm 26. I can wait.

Don't worry about it Holm.. People use to tell me that when I was your age too. They were wrong. I grew to 6'3' my brothers are 5-9 and 5-10...

JR just two boxes of gloves?

I go through that in a day! I need new gloves to put dishes in the dish washer.. and new gloves to take dishes out of the dish washer.

I go through a few pairs cooking meals. Not to mention cleaning....

However, I like my thrown together shanty town look on my coops. I want a redneck haven here...

BTW I have a new shot of my place on google earth, you can even see my pens!
