Oh, I'm so in want of chicks! Cuteness overload indeed! I love my EEs and I miss having chicks...Le Sigh of Longing here! Next spring, meaties and eggers...

In other news, I'm practicing with my bow, there are a few cute fuzzy bunnies in my front yard that have eaten the daisies one too many times. I warned them. Anyone have a good rabbit recipe, and know how long I have to let it rest?

I tried - I let them all out when the rabbit was there, and they considered chasing it, however, they were distracted by the grasshoppers, and let the rabbit live.

Flour the rabbit. Fry the rabbit. Then smother it and simmer it in brown gravy for an hr serve over rice. Yummmmmmy

Well, herein lies your mistake!

Shoot the rabbit, open it up so they can see and smell the blood, the chickens will devour it then!






And My CX's are now in the HUGE pasture, as far as they know they are free ranging. Only about half of them have went into it yet.

Jessica I love you chicks! I am thinking you should compost the droppings before spreading it on the field. I would suggest a place along their fence line as close to their house as possible. That way you get twice the bang out of each poop. Once while it composts and a second when you spread it..

But of course, Ralphie! The trick is to compost it but not too long so the center is still wet and stinky. Thus when you move it, it smells like an outhouse.

I turned the babies out as I said in my last post.

I fed them this evening, there were about 1/2 (30ish) of the babies in the "free range area". The rest were in the tractors. I brought the feed out to the Free rangers first. Most ran to the feed but about 10 of them ignored the feed and kept eating seeds and whatever they were finding in the weeds. It is amazing to see CX"s that ignore their feed trays.

I love my CX's! One of my old hens figured out she could fly over the fence and eat the CX feed....

Do a search in this thread on toads. Ralphie has created some cx mixes.
