First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

You know Ralph,I know the judges have to draw a line somewhere. To me they are ALL crosses. Some folks are realllll picky about the verbage. That's why I always refer to mine as hybrids.Though technically I don't believe I'm using "hybrids" correctly

I agree with you on both points..

Which is why I call mine toads...Let someone say I am using that name improperly...BTW I counted and I have 15 toads that should be laying by August..

This is a 5-7 day old Cornish cross beside a 3 week old Polish cross.

My kids actually are in 4H, and we raise Welsummer, Polish and Rock chickens. Last week we were in the feed store and my daughter saw the Cornish cross chicks. She immediately picked one up and said we have to save it. So...we drove home with two of them that will live with our other chicks. My question is.. ugh, how long until I know what sex these two are? They've got to be only 5-7 days old and they are huge. They are bigger than 3-wk-olds. They will be forever pets, so I'm really hoping that I do not end up with a giant white meat rooster that can hurt my girls. Since we've acquired them, the kids have educated themselves on their health issues, short lifespan, etc..

at the time of his passing, "Foghorn" was a little over a year old and weighed 19-1/2 pounds. He was the most gentle bird I've ever owned.

That's great news! These are our two chicks. I'm think the closer one is a cockerel and the other a pullet. Time will tell. Any thoughts?
