My husband says i should use Regular lime....not First Saturday lime in my coop and run.
Whats the difference?

Looking at the First Saturday Lime MSDS there are no hazardous ingredients which is wierd because on their site they say it repells bugs. I expected it to be hydrated lime but apparently it isn't. This site says it is calcium carbonate which is what the product looks like. So what they claim sounds like a bunch of bullhockey to me.

I don't think regular ground limestone will repel any bugs either but hydrated lime probably would but it can burn your skin.

Tho I don't think any kind of lime will be good are repelling insects, nor will DE.

Here are my notes on lime.

Hydrated lime, slake lime, or "burn lime"- This is pure white. Hydrated lime is very caustic, so the bag will have a warning on it. This is the kind of lime you use for white wash . This lime will burn you and your livestock. Do not use it on the floor. Do not breath it.

Agricultural lime, "ag lime", "garden lime", "barn lime" or dolomite- This lime is gray and can be used to spread on the floor of your barn. This is safe for you and your livestock. It will not burn.
