First time bator hatcher-10 Cayuga duck eggs

My neighbor wanted to try out her daughter's Cayuga duck eggs, so we put them in my new Hova Bator yesterday. It is our trial batch before getting some fun and exciting chicken breeds in there to hatch.

duck eggs take a higher humidity level it is really importaint. I'm not sure of the exact levels but I'm sure you can find out. good luck keep us updated

Luckily, MagsC has experience with a variety of fowl hatching, so she filled me in on it. Thanks for the tip though. I am excited to start candling, but I thought I better wait a few days to really see what is going on.

UPDATE I candled today and all the ones that I could see into had blood rings, and one I could even see the little heartbeat! The dark dark green ones I couldn't see into enough, maybe a brighter flashlight will let me see into them.

I got realllllllllly excited when I candled mine at only 7 days...Saw them staring right back at me! Glad they're developing!

Thanks! I HAD to show my hubby yesterday to get him excited and you could see the eye spots clear as day. They aren't even my eggs and I am like a kid in a candy shop! I can see what my latest addiction is going to be.

Way cool! I have two males and I need to females. I guess when I got them I was hoping I would get a male and a female but as it turns out they are both boys. They sure like my chickens but I think it's because they don't have girls of their own. It's been a little more challenging getting them through an Alaskan winter but they have been doing ok.

Good luck with your eggs, I wish you success. I'm getting excited because my chicken has been sitting and the chicks should come this weekend so I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well.

Day 11 - There are 5 definite duckies swimming in the eggs. I had one rotten one that had to go a couple of days ago. I am not sure on the other 4. I think two were duds and the other two may have died since they were growing at first. 50% is good for my first time though, I think.

I think 50 percent is great. I only had two hatch out of my eggs so you are definitely doing something right.
