I had my first broody hen this spring. She hadnt been broody, but after I started hatching the incubator chicks, she jumped right into it... under the deck.

Sunday morning, 21 days after the first night out of the coop, and sure enough, 2 new beautiful chicks.

She is protected for now and still has a few more eggs. So we will see how many she ends up with total.

Now I need to look into integrating her back into the flock.

Pictures to come!

My first broody has a week left to go. An egg busted early on, and I cracked another one, so hopefully at least a few hatch. :fl I think I gave her too many eggs to start out with, and eventually whittled them down to 8. Congrats on your hatch! Waiting on the pics!

Thank you. I didnt give her any to hatch. I had been incubating inside, and a couple weeks after my second batch hatched, she stopped laying in the nest boxes and started disappearing at night soon after that.

So this was her choice on clutch size and everything. Working out well so far.

Thanks! I'll get some when she gets off the nest.
