First time caller, long time fan

Hello!

I officially joined today so I can help help with my sick girl.

I just started raising chickens this year. I got my little flock almost a year ago May. This website has been very informative, especially being a first time chicken mom. My little flock consists of 2 Rhode Island Reds ( Reba and Lucy) , 2 Black Laced Silver Wyandotte’s (Wynnie and Dottie), and my lone Easter Egger, Melba. One thing I’ve learned is to always get two of each. My poor EE was odd girl out, though Reba and her became fast friends, she still is bottom of the pecking order.

I’ve also learned that having chickens is a quick way to heart break. I never saw myself as the crazy chicken lady, but here I am. I love spending time with my girls and learning all their personalities. It’s rough though when you see how cruel they can be, when they get sick (my first time through and I’ve stressed and cried), and when you have to make hard decisions (putting on pinless peepers, isolating them when you know they are scared to be away from their buddies). Ugh. Yet, here I am planning on getting more. Maybe not naming them this time. I only want layers.

Anyhow- I love reading the threads and learning from everyone’s experience.
Welcome to BYC!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I’m very happy to report Melba has bounced back!!! I followed my gut and stopped the Tylosin on day 3 and then pumped electrolytes and probiotics the next day. By evening she was back to going hard on the snacks and was back to roosting with the other gals. She even displaced one of the higher ranking girls on the roost!!! 😂. I want to thank everyone for the positive vibes sent her way. I think it definitely helped. Shes back to eating, drinking, and being her normal self.
