Ok, now I received candling kit and I did it right away. I set my eggs in bator 1 week ago.
Out of 21 bantam eggs, I could see 17 eggs have blood vessles, etc... VERY exciting!!
I also noticed that something was moving inside the eggs, it was moving like ocean wave? What is it? Is it chick?
(sorry for dumb question!)
Another question, I tried to candle Marans eggs (dark eggs), and couldn't see anything. Looks like the shell is too dark. I barely noticed that some dark object was in the middle of eggs, but couldn't see any vessles. Is it normal for Marans eggs (cannot see vessle)?
When do I know if those marans eggs are growing up ok? Or should I wait until just 21st day?
Thank you for any input and sorry for too newbie questions!

That floating thingy is your chick! Pretty awesome, huh?!? I always have a hard time seeing in Marans eggs. Blue eggs cause me problems too.

I have Welsummer eggs and couldn't see much either...just have to wait and hope...should have picked eggs with white or light shells for the first hatch...who knew..sounds like things are going well for you though...good luck!!

As far as the Maran eggs go, as long as you don't smell anything bad (in which case, identify the egg and toss it) then you'll have to enjoy waiting til the end! By the time Day 18 came, I could tell definitely (well maybe 95% sure) which Maran eggs were developing. Can't see any blood vessels though. But just to be sure, the ones that I don't think are developing are still in the bator. Guess I'll find out tomorrow, Day 21, and I'll see how accurate I was! I've read that some people are using old movie projectors for candling and that it works for Maran eggs, but I don't mind not knowing. Just gotta be patient:)

It depends on how far along the eggs are. Mine are on day 3 and I can see some veining and also the tiny beginning of a chick in the center of the veining. Floating over to the side is a wave looking thing..I think maybe the rest of the yolk? On day 3 there is no way the babies could be as big as the wave thing that I see in there. But if they are further along, then yes, it is most likely the baby! Take a look at the sticky thread at the top of this section and there are day by day pictures of the development!
