Wow! Those are going to be some happy chickens "Just Hatched"! You will have to post some pictures for us to see. I am sure your wife will enjoy them too. My husband was the one that kept wanting chickens and now it is I who is the one with the "chicken obsession" lol

I agree it's not the chicks that are the work it is the building that's the work
Yes, you are right. My husband spent a lot of time building our chickens a coop and run. I should have said........After the chicken house and run is complete raising the chickens is the easy part! Then again it depends on how many you have. I only have 8.

Ok want to introduce mamma moose she saved my life had a crying chick which had my number but thanks to this site learned I was a enabling it by freeking out with him and I will say him because I also learned the the roos tend to be the biggest babies lol so good by what sex am i. But this worked like a charm they were cuddled up to her in no time and quite . But most of all I was able to relax there is nothing like a crying chick

Updates for the girls.

Dorothy, EE (we finally named her), at 1 week old.

Blanche, LB, at 1 week old.

Mrs. McGuillicuddy, GSL, at 1 week old.

And the newest member... I finally got my Black Australorp! Wahoo! Her name is Betty, and this is her at 1 day old.

Her mates were shipped late and I couldn't go in today to get them, so we'll be heading to town tomorrow to grab (hopefully) our final 2 chickies. 10 is a good number of chickens to have. Right? 10 and no more.

Sounds like chicken math

I am on 17 days with mine--- and I've been pretty ballsy with mine. They were getting treats by 5 days and having outside time by 8 days.... but I was careful to make sure there was no drafting, the temperature was right, and I kept my eyes on them!

The best thing --- once they started getting outside time and some grits etc-- spaghetti!!!!! Or worms.. just a bit! Then watch the fun ensue.

It's crazy how fast they grow. We moved ours out to their coop as a brooder as they outgrew the XL dog crate and started to get a little addicted to their outside times.

Have you got any questions in particular.

I will say I spent like 20 minutes minimum 3 x a day with the chicks and they all come running and jump on me when they see me. I'm really hoping for an easy, friendly flock that listens! I have a few that even want to be picked up.. and held and rocked. <3
