First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

Personally it would depend on how deep the standing water is getting. Some puddles here and there I would think would be fine. Entire ground covered in standing water I would be cautious. I don't have any experience in it though. I just have heard of Chickens drowning.

It's rained here for the past two days and my girls have been cooped up in their coop.

We are thinking about letting them out tomorrow but when it rained the whole yard was flooded not just the run, the whole yard had standing water. If it's muddy and wet can they go out or should we keep them put up??

Oh, but I did pick up the Toulouse goslings today and added some Magpie ducklings to go with them.

The goslings think the suspended heating pad makes a fabulous swing!

But the ducklings figured it out.

And because I am almost incapable of buying poultry supplies without looking at the chicks, also have 5 black minorcas and one blue silkie stuffed under the pad in an adjacent brooder. They got under it and almost immediately passed out.

So. Many. Chicks!

I only had two losses in the box. Those seemed to be more due to trampling than extended travel...GFF included quite a few extras so I think I'm set for Queen Silvias and East Frisan Gulls at the moment. I forgot how TINY these guys are though! I've been getting chicks from the farm store that have been probably close to a week old for a while. Anyway, off to settle these guys in, then hit the road to pick up ANOTHER batch of chicks (from Chicken Scratch Poultry).

It also happens to be my birthday, so best birthday ever or best birthday ever, amirite? :D

Happy birthday! So what are the details on these guys? Which ones are the QS and which ones are the EFG? How many of each again? And GFF doesn't sex do they? They all looks super healthy and WAY CUTE.

These pads I ended up getting at Walmart, but you can get them a little cheaper on Amazon. They don't have auto-shut-off, but you also can't wash them. I think they ran $14/pc and are 12x15". There was a smaller one too for under $10.

Thanks! The EFGs are the pale yellow chicks with spots and the chipmunk chicks with the same pale yellow stripes. I think they are two different colors of EFGs. The QS are the darker chicks. I'll try to get better individual pics later. The auction was for 15 QS and 12 EFGs, but I'm pretty sure if the other two had made it, I would have had at least 10 extra. GFF doesn't vent sex. They have a few auto-sexing breeds that they can sell as pullets/cockerels, but otherwise it's straight run.
