First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

Here are 2 of my day old EEs, just came this morning! (poorly pictured huddled in the back are the SLW Audre and barred rock Dominque, though the BR may end up with someone else as three may be my space's max!) Any color guesses? They are both an odd mix of silver/blue and rust/brown/black/blonde

Sooo that little vocal BR is apparently not going to bed tonight. My poor hubby keeps putting her under the MHP but it's warm in the house tonight so she comes right back out and is yelling all about it. I told him to look for a stuffed animal.... Is that all he can do?

Are the lights out? As long as there is light in the room she may not want to settle. You can try tucking her under there and holding your hand in front until she settles down too. Is she the sole chick? T didn't think so but maybe I missed a post somewhere. Might be too warm under the pad if it's warm in the house. Try putting it on 4 or so.... And I'm officially out of ideas.

He said she's settled down now. She's one of 9 and all the rest are under there trying to sleep. I think he was in an adjacent room with a light on and moved to another room so there would be less light. She's a talker that's for sure. Thanks for the tips!

I have a stuffed moose that saved my life I have a 7 week old silkie that hates to go to bed after running outside, but the moose has been his mama since I brought him home at about a week old he has a buddy who I feel bad for lol I was so frazzled with him and typed in crying chicks on this page and guess what tons of ideas it actually pulled up discussions on it I felt better knowing I was not the only one lol I think my husband was about to keep the chickens and kick me to the curb I was a wreck. But all better now.

Thank you. I'll have to find a stuffed animal for tmrw night.... My son is on chick duty tmrw night while we both work... I can only imagine the call I'll get if she's yelling again lol

another quick trick that worked was I have night shirt that was light weight woven that I was able to drape over him I had it hang from the top loose right on top and he slept under it but good luck I feel your pain.

I believe the top two pictures, referenced by "rust/brown/black/blonde" are Sicilian Buttercups. We are new chicken parents (as of May 8th!) and we have two of them. Of the ten chicks we brought home, they have such a great, inquisitive personality!

Oh, they are both Easter Eggers (EEs as often referred to on here) ! But it's always a guessing game what those will grow into as they aren't a really "breed", just a mix of many things, so was just seeing if folks had had similarly shaded EE chicks and what they might grow into. Those Sicilian Buttercups are beautiful birds though!
