First Time Chicken Attack Help

Her comb has been like that since she was a chick. It’s patchy in color so maybe it’s bothering her too? I’m just worried with her opening her mouth and shaking her head so much.

My 8 month old rooster attacked my 1.5 year old head hen. She’s basically been scalped. I’ve had her inside in a crate for a week. I’ve cleaned her up and treated her with antibiotics for six days and Neosporin. I’ve also sprayed her with Vetericyn on days I didn’t do Neosporin. She’s eating, drinking, and pooping normally. However, she keeps opening her mouth and shaking her head. She has no other signs of respiratory distress. Is this a pain response? Are there other things I should be doing? Thanks for any advice. This is my first major injury with my flock.

There are nice roosters out there, there are unfortunately quite a few jerks to wade through

She seems to be healing up well, I think she might be shaking her head 'cause her comb is in her face but I'll let some of the others chime in too

I agree, shaking of the head is likely the comb bothering her. With it hanging down like that, you may need to consider dubbing her.

Yawining...is her crop emptying?
If you can get video of her actions, that may be helpful.

I think you’re right. She was just emptying her crop. I was just overly worrying. I’ve never dubbed but she probably needs it.

Has she stopped the yawning?

Get some photos of how the comb looks like now. If it's not bothering her a lot now, then I'd just monitor.

If it's folded over, do look in the folds now and again and at any tissue the comb may be covering up/laying against. In folds like that sometimes the skin/tissue can get a bit of a fungal infection going on, so cleaning it every once in a while may help prevent that.
