Hello all! So this is my second post here. First post as an introduction to myself I suppose. I am super thrilled to be able to come online here at BYC as an actual chicken owner! For so long I would peruse the articles and forum as a 'potential' chicken owner. So now I'm two weeks into chicken ownership and I'm totally smitten with my bitties. I am working toward being more self-reliant and my husband didn't want any pets so I combined those two circumstances and convinced the hubby that we'd be able to enjoy the eggs and I'd never ask for the chickens (or anything else) to be 'indoor pets'. And thus, he agreed!
I bought 2 buff orpingtons, 1 black australorp, and 1 barred rock from our local feed store in my small town. So far they are crazy little birds that hear my voice and start screeping (screamer-peep) as if they haven't seen me in years. Who wouldn't love that kind of welcome?! My two daughters and 5 and 2 and they even get that reception. The barred rock is the most stand-offish so far which surprised me. The australorp really loves me and will climb up and peer at me with giant curious eyeballs. One buff loves my 5 year old like crazy and the other buff could take us or leave us.
Overall, I am thrilled if not a bit anxious about my new babies (I tend to be a worrier!) but I know that they will enrich our lives in so many ways! Thanks in advance for your patience with me as I may ask LOTS of questions in the future!
