Once I lost 2 chicks in the coop/run even with broodies to ptotect them. But maybe this happened during the night? It was before I had the automatic pop door to the run (rats chewed through netting 60 cm above ground level).
Free ranging there are more dangers. Our garden is not fenced and our neighbours on two sides have mean murdering cats
, and one neighbour has a dog that likes come over to ‘visit’ the chickens every now and then. He came over to check out on the chicks on the first evening they where free ranging.
