First time chicken owner from Montana

I don't have any birds yet but plan on it very soon. Still building coop and run. Wondering if there are sites online that will let me buy 4 or 5 or do all of them have about a 20 order minimum? We have 3 dogs and 3 cats plus large saltwater aquarium. Don't want to overwhelm myself with too many hens. Any advice would be awesome!!

www.mypetchicken.com will let you order as few as 3 standards or 5 bantams and will also sex them so that you will not get roosters if you choose not to have any.

You might also check your state thread (look in the Where am I - Where are You section of the Forum) for folks in your area that may have spare birds.
