Morning friends!
My name is Shane and we purchased our first 6 chicks about 3 weeks ago, then, I ordered 8 more 4 days later
Anyhow, we ended up with a total of 14, and they are all growing up fast and doing really well so far!!

Our flock consists of:
3 Buff Orpington
3 Black sex link
2 Olive Eggers
2 Barred Rock
2 Cuckoo Maran
2 "Amerucana"
They are, for the most part, really sweet and curious. I still can't tell which are the BR, OE, and CM's, but I am starting to be able to see the differences.
Anyway, we live in a pretty rural neighborhood, and we do have a few predators, so I don't know if I am going to let them free range like I originally thought. We have a hawks nest in one of our pines, see a fox trot through the woods daily, and our neighbors told us their flock was eaten by a weasel last year.

We have been doing lots of reading and research on building the right coop and making it super secure. I think I am going to put up an electric fence around the run.
We also have 2 cats, 2 dogs and three boys.
I am a RYT and teach my kids yoga. I also have a degree in graphic design and printing from Clemson, but I left that industry 11 years ago.
My husband is a professor and also is the director of two institutions for his university.
My kids are 9, 11 and 20.
We enjoy hiking and visiting our National parks. I currently do not have a garden, but have in the past. I have been scouting out spots in the yard for a Chicken garden and additional raised beds for a few veggies for the family.
Oh, and I am a female named Shane.
