You may click on the link below and read my post #5. This is what I did to keep my meat birds living beyond 13 weeks. I will say again, that I wouldn't suggest getting a meat bird to be a pet. You have to have the time and energy and information on how to keep them alive and then that still may not work. I was just lucky enough that mine are still living and they do not have any leg problems or heart problems because of their weight. If this is your first time raising chickens, you may want to re-think keeping a meat bird beyond 13 weeks.

Yeah we picked them up at Tractor Supply and found out they were meat birds later. I guess we will have to find someone to do it for us.

Welcome from Romadfox in SC. I am actually from Ohio, (farm in Chillicothe and lived in Xenia), but the Air Force took us around the world and landed us in SC. I have 6 hens, 9 weeks old. I have 2 X Buff Orpintons, 2 X Barred Rocks, and 2 X Rhoade Island Reds. I really want to Buckeyes cause it would be so cool to have a chicken developed in my home state.
