Hello everyone! I'm so grateful for all of the information posted. I just got 4 Marans, 2 White Plymouth Rocks, and 2 Rhode Island Reds from Tractor Supply. I had been considering getting quail this year, but when I went to get cat food and they had chicks, I just couldn't resist! I raised Guinea Fowl years ago, but this is my first time with chickens. I am super excited, and already love my little cuties!

I too started with 7 Buff Orpington's they are 5 weeks now are really enjoying their coop. I could spend every waking hour just watching them. This weekend I am planning on doing some painting to give them some color to look at.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. I love the chocolate eggs of the Marans. In my personal opinion, they are the prettiest eggs in the chicken world. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

So glad you could join our community! Congratulations on your new chicks. You've picked out some excellent breeds! Plymouth Rocks and Rhode Island Reds should be very good layers and the Marans will lay you lovely chocolate colored eggs. Few people can resist bins of cute little chicks.
