first time chicken raise'in

ok, my friend Matt wants to start raising chickens. idk how i can help him pick out a good breed. he wants a Black White Tail Bantam, but idk if thats a good idea.
and thoughts?

I have a Buff Tailed Black Japanese bantam and I personally find her very skittish, but submissive. Others will tell you that they are sweet, friendly birds.
