First time for watermelon

I gave my boys watermelon for a treat today. I cut it in cubes and put it out there and they looked at it like it was the strangest thing they ever saw. They wouldn't touch it until the baby chickens started. Then they ran after the chickens and stole theirs. After doing this a couple of times they decided it was safe to get their own and before long the plate was clean. I loved it.

Hehe it's always fun to see them learning about new foods! Mine liked yellow squash the best I think. Red things scared them when they were little, but watermelon is one of their faves now.

Never thought about them being scared of red. That might be why they wouldn't have anything to do with tomatoes. Maybe next week I'll try the yellow squash.

That is funny, mine seem to love red things! I take some watermelon and sprinkle sunflower seeds over top of it to make it even more interesting. I think that is how they learned about eating watermelon is they pecked at the seeds and learned about eating the watermelon. Mine like blueberries. They go wild over them. They like grapes too. They don't go for apples though or oranges.
