This is my first time getting eggs through the mail today or tomarrow. Need to make sure i do this right. When they arrive i plan on unpacking them and check them over. Then let them sit big end up for 12 to 24 hours before i set them. Any thing else i need to do or now. The bator has been going for days and holding temp at 99.5. Humidity has been going up and down some. With no water in there it still will jump to 58. I have turned down the humidifier in the house i might just have to turn it off. What is the highest it can go and still be in the safe zone. I have incubated many times before and have had good hatches But allways in the spring.

Sounds like you have it all covered to me.

Something I do is take a pencil and number the eggs. If hand turning I also put an X on one side and an O on the other so I can tell if I have turned each egg.

I candle them and make notes of the condition of each of the eggs. If I suspect any of them to have a loose air cell I candle those after a few days to double check because sometimes they will settle down. I keep my little notebook with my eggs and I make notes every day on turning and temps and at every candling on how each egg is developing.

Looks like you have read up and have everything under control....just remember when you set your eggs in the incubator the temps and humidity are going to drop and give it hours and I mean hours to come back up to normal and then re-check everything... don't worry about your humidity dropping too low the first 18 days...40 to 50%...anywhere close to that range or lower...its the high humidity that can drown a chick before day 18...then 60 to 70%, anywhere in that range ...

Thanks. I have 24 silkie eggs coming i got from Bama and i want every thing to go well. Iam using a turner this time because i have that many eggs. Do you have any idea on what the hatch rate is on shipped eggs. I know it depends on alot of diffrent factors and i don't want to get my hopes to high. My last 3 hatches i have had 100%. Im hoping for 15 to hatch.

It just depends, ...I have gotten 80% hatches down to nothing from shipped eggs...lots of things can happen between your house and a shippers house...I do know Bama packs her eggs really well and I have gotten eggs from her, so it won't be because of her ...and had a great hatch.....most say if you get a 50% hatch rate from shipped eggs thats a great hatch....

It's just a guessing game really..........
