If you've seen any of this story... cause it has been quite the adventure so far... if this all works out, yeah, I'm going to need some newbie pointers. I've read a bunch of stuff, but even some pointers on what to do at first when it hatches...

Right now I'm waiting... for this.

See, doesn't it look like the wrong spot??? I saw it move just a couple of mins ago. It's hatch time!!

Here's what I wrote in the other thread before I posted the pics!!!!!!

OK OK OK! Now all of a sudden there looks like a crack! Not a pip, but a full blown crack! It's not open, it almost could be mistaken for a hair??? but i don't think it was there before... but I think hubby was the last to look.

And not only that... it's not where it's suppose to be. I thought it was suppose to be in the air membrane, and then they make a circle around it and push open the door.... it's further down, like the middle. The crack, or hair, is about an inch long. This could be bad. It could drown. What if it is just a hair and I'm freaking out for nothing!

Oh dear Lord!

When hubby gets home again I'll be sure and let him know what you said about listening to it. I doubt I'll have to twist his arm.

I'd love for him to make a pip so I'll know for sure that he's actually in there trying to get out.

Come on Pippy!!!!!

I hear you loud and clear I am also new and confused/anxious/paranoid. I did it the other way around - hope i dont add confusion to your anxiety. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for my incubator to be delivered so started with the home made brooder. My bantam produced 4 chicks. I took 2 to try in the brooder ... it worked!!!! Left 2 for the mum to bring up all 4 doing great. I was terrified they would be dead the first morning so approached the brooder with packet and gloves. They looked up at me.... I nearly burst into tears of relief, so I know how it feels. My incubator arrived and I had to set it first. All well tomorrow will set my first ever eggs. As time goes by the confidence increases and I already feel more at home around the equipment etc. Go for it ENJOY the journey and mine is a sympathetic shoulder. Best of luck

Well thank you for the shoulder. I'm gonna need it. Either we really messed it up, or it's just the weirdest little egg you've ever seen. I say egg cause he's still not out!! Well with that little crack I posted pics of last night, we had company over, and we were all talking to the egg in the incubator!!! Hahahaa what a sight! If I could have got a video of us and posted. Too funny!

Today was our town day, so we were gone up until 4:00. I came in the house looked at the egg, husband came in looked at the egg, still the same crack, maybe another little hairline bigger. He went upstairs to wash his hands, came back down and.... PIP!!!! I will take credit and say it was because I was talking to him. LOL So exciting. But at the same time it's not at all like the pics and videos online. And it seems like it's in the middle of the egg, not around the air pocket. WE ARE REALLY WORRIED!! I'm worried that he may drown, if he hasn't already. The pip is on the up side, but I doubt that it's in the air part. Why would he even do that.

HELP!!!

It should be ok. Its a good sign that its making the crack bigger. Just leave it on its side and leave it alone. Some times they take a long time before they hatch. Just keep talking to him as long as its still answering you know hes ok.

We have very good progress this morning!! There are a number of peices of shell away so that we can see a leg moving about trying to push out and a beak!! He opens his beak and you can see his tongue moving!!! Everyone is excited and happy to see our little one doing so well!!!

It's now Monday morning and can you believe we're still at this!! The longest, slowest hatch EV-ER! He has a fairly large hole, bigger than a "Loonie" almost looks like he could get out if he wanted to, but before we went to bed it looked like he curled up and went to sleep too!! He had a long day!

Hope he's ready to get at it again today. He's going to be all dried off and fluffy before he even makes it out of the egg!
