First Time Hatcher, Nerves of Jello and *a Day One Update!*...

Well thus far I am on day ten and have already tossed half of the eggs. Quite dissapointed but apparently shipped eggs just don't have a very good hatch rate. < this is what I use to reason with myself so I don't feel like a complete failure.

I've had very poor hatch rates with shipped eggs...but hang in there..you still have half left!!

Shipped eggs stink. Yet, if you want a breed that you can't get locally, you don't have much choice. I am taking my risks with shipped Maran eggs right now, and only 7 of 12 are surviving, due 2 days before yours. I got a local fresh egg from a friend, and that puppy is growing so much better! Mainly the air sac detachment causes a lot of problems in shipped eggs, and no one can control that.

Good luck!

As crappy as shipped eggs can be, just think of every one that DOES hatch as even more of a success. That is what I keep tellin gmyself when I start to panic ov er these darn things. I swear I'm starting to worry more about them than my own children...

ugh i know. I got showgirl silkie mix eggs because i want two good quality showgirls of differing colors. So now im like "okay, what if i get ALL silkies an i have to sell em and start all over". I couldnt handle that man. I hear hatching is addicting but i seriously dont think i want to go trhough this ever again.

lol yes i will i promise. i know i will feel differently when they hatch, but i really want to try and remember how stressed out i am before i get into it again.

I think it's like a lovely friend (and mother of 6) of mine said: With the first child you rush them to the Dr. when they have a sniffle. With the second, you wait until you're sure they have a fever. With the 6th one, unless blood is gushing and bone is showing, you just go get the aspirin and bandaids.

I think it gets easier and more relaxed as you do it multiple times. Don't give up.

lol sounds like my mom. i think another thing that will deter me from this in the future is that this venture with the bator and the shipped eggs has cost over $200 thus far and im not even certain im going to get five chicks outta it, haha. oh sheesh me.
