Just don't toss anything out yet.
I don't toss any eggs unless I see the blood ring. And just so it won't explode in my face when I pick it up, I pick it up with a plastic bag.

The duckie loves this set up. The sand gets warm and she lays on it...aloha.

Yay baby ducky!!

Thanks, Blueducklings! I just candled them, using a mini maglite, and cupping my hand around the end of the flashlight, and setting the egg against my cupped hand. I am seeing mostly dark blobs, along with lighter, non blobby areas. Does this sound right? I looked at the pictures and videos of candling, but ???? I don't see any veins, etc. Maybe I need a better way of candling them?

on the twentieth of february

Are you finding that the lens of the light is hitting the egg and the light is shooting out from the edge of the light?
IF you are, you need to tweak the light.
You gan go to the local hardware store & buy a rubber washer that wil fit the ring of teh washer.
Set it on the lip of the light & glue it on ot elect. tape it on. YOu will get a nicer fit for the egg to sit on & the light won't blind you. You'll be able to see better.
Also, when you handle the eggs, try not to use your bare hands. Wear gloves so the oil from your paws don't mess up the egg.

- I was thinking of buying a hovabator at the local ranch store. They're on sale right now $39.99...basic model. No fan, no turner.

blue - where in the world are your other ducklings? You can't have just one!!

I'm finding that I'm doing things I thought I never could. This morning, after watching and waiting for 2 days for a chick to break loose of the egg, I went ahead and opened the incubator grabbed it and pulled the very dry egg shell lining off it it. It was definately on it's way to being shrinkwrapped. Poor little thing. I hope it's neck and legs straighten out soon! Another baby was zipped and popped out when I put it back. Then I had to leave for work. So...as of this morning I've got 13/16 chicks..Not a bad percentage. Cute little mutt babies!

hi there

i have to say i like my hovabator
but i haven't tried anything else

i went to grad school in eugene
awfully nice there

lived at llth and lawrence close to the kiva
okay, it was close to a corner store
that sold high test malt beverages
and there seemed to be someone passed
out in my yard all the time, but who remembers that

oh, and i miss rita's burritos

and the powerhouse breakfast at that place,
what was it called?

Latebloomer...can't recall the name of the breakfast. How long ago were you in Eugene? The downtown area has changed quite a bit. LCC is breaking ground on the well known "pit" across from the fabulous new Library and LTD station. But hey, I haven't been downtown much since they closed the old Woolworth!and Sears! Or since I watched Linda Blair in The Exorcist! Boy do I regret using my older sister's id to get in! That really ages me!

I found a Brower top hatch on Craigslist yesterday. Am going to pick it up tomorrow in Jefferson. I've added "chicken" to the title of Crazy Cat and Chicken lady that lives on the hill. Although, I don't really deserve the cat part, I only have 3 of them.
