From what I read it's better to have the incubator a tad cool than too hot.

Oh my gosh I am soooo nervious! Nervious about everything!!! I am really worried that I wont be able to get the humidity up to 60%. I heat with a wood-stove and the normal humidity in my house is about 15% and I have been keeping the incubator at about 28% (going with the semi-dry method) and now I am slowly bringing it up.

I decided to use an egg carton to hatch with. I am using a Styrofoam one because I figured it wouldn't dry out the eggs, like cardboard might?

I will post a picture once I get it all put together.

Oh my gosh I won't be able to go anywhere for three days, luckly I dont have to work till Saturday

I guess I will just start making coffee by the gallon and post up with my laptop next to the eggs.

Thanks so much everyone for coming together!!! It is so great to ask silly questions with other first time hatchers

Alright I had better go get the chickens/horses/dogs fed and taken care of. I will be back!!!

Hmmm.
I think not as hardy as I had hoped. I had to toss duckie out of the hatch box last night. There was a big void on the top & the bottom & no movement at all.

I hope thenest 3 eggs will do better.

I duess that is why folks say do a test hatch of cheap eggs & not that many at that.
Good luck.

I am so glad that I decided to hatch my own eggs this time around!! I would have been even more on edge about everything if I had spent money on eggs.

So sorry about the ducky!!

I didn't put holes in the bottom of the egg cartons !!

The chicks are due any time now! Should I take them out and put holes in the carton?? It's the only carton I have so I can't just switch it. The eggs are silkie eggs and I put them in a large egg carton, do you think they are getting enough air?
