hey guys so it’s my khaki Campbell’s first time laying and hatching eggs and our first time with ducklings that aren’t bought from someone.

She’s been super broody and sitting on them ect,

We came home today and she was fine (sitting eating ect and came out for a quick run and a swim) We went inside and within 15-30 minutes, there was unfortunately a dead duckling in our little shell pool.

We think it may have followed her or she may have been trying to do the right thing and take it to water or something?

Anyone got any ideas because we have no issue taking the ducklings and raising them inside (as we just raised some 2 week olds so have the lights ect still) or to “assist” mum with the raising.

At the moment there was just the one but she’s still sitting on the eggs so from the research there maybe more in the next 24-48hrs

We just don’t want to deal with anymore dead ducklings because the one I just saw was enough.

This was the space she’s at currently and the duckling was found in the blue pool

Yeah I’ve removed the pool now and kinda fenced off momma duck from the rest because yeah the other 2 (one x male and one x female) did have access. I figured since it was her first time then she probably may have had no idea and the mother instincts haven’t kicked in yet

We thought maybe the other female had drowned it accidentally because for the last few days we’d find her in the nest box cuddled up with momma.

The others don't have the hormones so when they hear Peeps they have zero clue and kill the babies. I'm thinking one of them picked up the Duckling and killed it in the pool or put it in the pool after they killed it.
Sorry that happened. Best wishes with the rest..:jumpy
