First time hatching.

brooder is a non issue, mine is big and airy and when I want to normalize their temps and humidity I just take the towels off. Not a newbie with brooding. Just a newbie with hatching.

Low temps again! I have been keeping the humidity down in the new improved larger incubator and watching to see temp under the bulbs didn't get over 104. House temp has dropped since the weather changed, and I'll be darned if it wasn't 97 on the back row where the eggs were again as I was so carefully not cooking them. Have 2 thermostats, pretty sure the honeywell one just needs to go back and not sure the other will work. for now, tightened the lid down and moving one of my 2 hygrometers to different places where the eggs are to try to get that temp up. humidity has averaged around 30% but I am worried about 10 days, the last couple at 97 instead of 100. Fixing it now hoping for the best. I can go from 1 11 watt and 1 15 watt bulb to a pair of 15's but I don't want to cook them. All vents are closed

I have 9 eggs due the 16th, and 8 eggs due the 21st.

I put in incubator what I thought was a fart egg and now it looks like it is a double yolk. I will not hatch, I am sure, but I will take pics along the way...

Is that a giant egg next to a normal size or a tiny egg next to a normal size.

A large egg next to a very small egg. Small egg has the double yolk.

I wouldn't hatch that either. Many years ago my grandmother had a hen that laid a giant egg. Inside the giant egg was a perfectly formed normal sized egg, shell and all. The giant egg was in her china cabinet until her death. Only happened once. It was about 4 or 5 inches tall, just huge.

ok next hatch has begun one pecked its pip hole around 4 hours ago, and now there is a tiny red dot in the corner. Do I worry? do anything? do nothing?

if its a tiny red dot the chick probably piped a tiny blood vessel. that shows that the chicks not ready to hatch as the vessels still have blood in them so there's nothing you can do except to wait. As its not a major bleed and its only on one part of the pip hole I wouldn't worry.

oh thank you! The hole has gotten a fair amount larger in the last half hour, so I am pretty sure the chick is alive, and he or she is through the membrane to fresh air. I'm hands off and watching, just keeping an eye on temp/ humidity and progress thru the window
