Hi to all!
While my family and I went on a weekend trip we came back to discover a broody hen. She has been sitting on her nest since May 13th. I have not disturbed her since then. i was wondering how long before we start seeing these little chicks. I'm super excited and waiting not so patiently :)
I've removed the infertile ones since the other chickens will still lay on top in that nesting box.

Thanks in advance :)

You should see baby chicks any day now!
I would put her and chicks in a secure area away from the general population for a week just so the chicks get used to following and obeying mom.
And mom won't have to worry about fending off hens and roosters; she can focus her time on her chicks.
Even a large dog cage will do.
Feed mom and babies some chick starter and mom will also teach babies how to forage for bugs.

CONGRATS on your baby chicks!

Thanks :) we've got 9 Healthychicks, momma is still sitting on 3 and one chick that might not make it. The one chick has what I think is am umbilical cord still attached to part of the egg shell. It's very lively and I've got em under a heat lamp. It's been about 6 hours and he's doing okay. The cord looks more dried out. Th articles I've read say that I will dry up and fall off...but also concerned that it could have part of it's intestines protruding. How do I know the difference? There is a white sac attached to a red outie belly button looking thing on the chickie. Any advice?
