First time incubating - and rushed

Frank, congrats on a sucessful hatch!! Great job on tacking the construction and then the first incubation ever.

Eggs can be kept in the refridge according to 2 sources that I trust. ONe person lives in FL and has not cellar so he says he keeps egggs in the refridge and another person, in TX from a long line of hatchers, uses lower temps in a sealed bag for long term storage. SO using the refrige to buy you time has merit!!

Would like to know which controler and probe you bought-- I have been want ing one but this is a mind boggling subject.

Hello guys ,

I am very confused on lockdown time as people say that its on the day 18.
I have placed the eggs on 31/08/2013 at 11 am so their full 1 day would have been on 01/08/2013 . so if i take the day 18 itself , the day 18th will be fully completed on 18th at 11am and day 19th starts after 12 o clock . i know its confusing but i am confused . People have suggested me to lockdown on 18/08/2013 which will make full complete day 18 and day 19 will start .So that mean i am locking down my eggs on day 19

I'm no expert, but I usually lock down at about the same time I set the eggs on day 18, which would be the 18th for you. I don't think it really makes a difference if its a bit either way, unless the eggs pip early. If they do, I would lockdown at that point. Good luck, hope the hatch goes well!

Don't worry so much about the lock down day to the exact minute. I have chicks hatch that I never put into lock down. Really. I put them into lock down when they are close to hatching, and if the air cell is looking good. If air cell is too small I wait to put them into a higher humidity.

ANd it is why I set at midnight. lol

( Sorry original op)
