first time incubating any tips?

I am going to say that you need to relax, hatching really isn't that hard, it is lots of fun though

If you follow the advise Jamie821 gave you,you should do great with your hatch.Have fun and good luck.

When your chicks start to hatch.......DO NOT OPEN THE BATOR!! I can not stress that enough! Everyone wants to open it and watch. My friend just had a very disappointing because her friend would not leave it shut.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have a delema. I have warmed up the eggs to 70 degrees house temp. just watched the weather. sun afternoon into mon we are expecting 13 inches heavy wet snow. they are predicting power outages. do I set the eggs anyway? can they be put back in the cellar at 50 degrees? 5 were laid today so came right into the house. or do I put them all in the fridge and start over collecting and plan to hatch next weekend?

great advice. I bought a bator with a picture window so I cound watch. I expect that the dog and I will have our noses pressed against the bator window when they hatch. I bought my first chicks last july so these will be my first babies. one of my silkies just started to lay a couple weeks ago. I have 3 showgirls that are just about ready to lay. this is so exciting!

Aww, that will be too cute. You and your dogs nose pressed into the glass of your incubator.

As far as your eggs, I would think it to be fine to wait. I would not want to start to incubate and then have your power go out.

I have had some egg shells in there all day that I drained last week so I could watch the turner and they have not hatched yet!

will they be ok at the house temp?

I would put them back in the basement. I have had to do the same before. You may not have as a successful hatch but they should still do good.
