We had nine eggs to start with. One had a blood ring at our day 7 candling and we tossed it. So out of eight eggs we so far have 6 hatches today, YAY!!!!
This is my first hatch too. I have been keeping track on my BYC page (incubating history). I wanted to post more pictures - but it was hard to get them to come out.
My first pip was at 6:30 this morning - came home at 12:00, and a little bit of a bigger pip. THIS takes a LONG TIME!
Have one large opening now and one pip. The other nine eggs are not doing much. Haven't checked on my brood hen yet. I gave her 3 eggs out of the incubator on day 9. So far, she has been a good Momma. I hope her eggs hatch.
So, now I have eight little chickies in their box in my pantry, heehee. They are so CUTE and they have so much personality. The one that hatched yesterday evening (number 7) is feisty! He/she hollers when you pick him/her up and tries to peck his way out of your fingers, lol.
One of the little bantams will curl up on my hand and fall asleep every time i pick it up.
Anyway, we are SO happy all our eggs hatched, and having lots of fun.
This is the one that hollers and pecks when you pick him up...
We have two bantam chicks (don't know what kind--one has feathered feet) and they will run up when we stick our hands in the box. One araucana (or a X, it's the striped one), and five unknown since the folks who gave us the eggs got them from the nieghbor of a relative and don't know what they are
Anyway, we had fun and are ready to maybe try some of one of the heritage breeds we've been looking at. In the meantime we have some muscovy duck eggs on the way and are looking forward to a new adventure
