First Time Incubating! SO EXCITED!!

That IS a good sign!
Still may take a another day or so to see any hatching.....
....first you might hear peeps, means they've pipped internally thru the air cell.
Then you'll see external pips in the shell..and maybe a little beak breathing thru the pip.
Then they'll start 'zipping' around the shell until they can pop out.
But they can take long breaks to rest during and/or between these stages...so don't despair.

Is #17 the double yolker?
No....the double is #15. I'm watching it like a hawk!!

I left you a message on the other thread, I'll leave it here too...lol If you can play a video from chicks chirping (on youtube) near the bator, that will motivate them as well. :-)

Hey aart, do you know how long a chick can survive in the egg after it's made the internal pip without making the external pip? (Before it'll pass from suffocation?) Something we were trying to figure out on a previous thread earlier this week.

I am definitely gonna try playing the chirping for them.

And I'm curious to know the answer to that as well.

I guess I won't know if they have pipped internally, until I hear chirping right?

I do not know how long they can survive after internal pipping if they don't externally pip.
Lots of variables, I imagine.
They don't always peep/cheep/chirp after internal pip.

.....and they don't need to hear other peeps/cheeps/chirps to complete hatching, tho it can stimulate them.

Pretty much, unless you are candling. In the other situation the lady had heard the peeping from the egg about 24 hours earlier and it started sounding weaker, we were trying to figure out if they don't externally pip within 24 hours would it be better to put a small hole in the air cell to give it extra time to hatch itself out. It would be helpful to know how long they can survive between interal and external pips.

Most eggs should just be left to do what they are going to do.....tho that double yolker will probably needs help if wither is to survive.

They don't NEED to, but it DOES usually motivate them especially for the first hatcher. I only heard two I think of my chicks peep from inside after the internal pip but before the external pip. But I can say the minute they heard those recorded chirps their little beaks were peeping out the pips...lol

Yes, in most cases it is best to let an egg hatch itself out. No one is arguing that. However, not all of us subscribe to the theory that if they can't do it themselves you shouldn't help. I have a beautifull young healthy black chick in there now that I wouldn't have if I subscribed to that theory. If you are not going to jeopardize your hatch there is no reason not to try to assist if you feel it is necessary, and you can handle it.

Yes, I am most nervous about that one. I've been trying to learn as much as I can to assist with the double, and have informed my DH that he is on-call from this point on. Lol
