Hi!! This is going to be my first time incubating some eggs of mine! I was wondering if anyone had any tips and information they can give me. I’ve heard from some people that the humidity can be a problem sometime.

Hatching chicks can be difficult since one tiny error could severely impact your hatch rate, these are the most important things;
  1. The temperature should be kept at 99.5 degrees F
  2. Keep humidity around 55%
  3. Make sure that they are getting turned multiple times a day (stop turning them on day 18)
  4. Do not spray water on the eggs
  5. Stop opening the incubator on day 18
Good luck:jumpy

Use external thermometers, never trust the incubator and check them often, adjust incubator temp accordingly. Make sure you know parameters for your species, what works for chickens won’t work for quail or pea fowl (temp is pretty consistent but incubation period is highly variable and humidity can vary as well). Be prepared for your chicks and adults, don’t hatch anything you can’t care for. Keep learning, enjoy the process, and don’t give up, everybody has a disaster every so often!

Like already mentioned, make sure temperature is correct, I dry hatch and my humidity averages around 40%, I’ve seen it as low as 35%, and as high as 50% inside the incubator, when the chicks start hatching humidity jumps up to 88%, without adding any water, I don’t candle until day 18, when they go into lockdown, my hatch rate has been 93% using this method, I am in a high humidity area, central Texas.
My chicks have no problem hatching, and are very lively.
I will keep using the dry hatch method, because if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
