first time incubating

I use the end of a plastic ketchup bottle that I bought at walmart for .99 as a funnel... I tub the tubing thru the holes in the bator in my jars and then on the other end (outside the bator) I attach the funnel and a little duck tape, and i can fill it with a cup of water anytime I need. You dont have the duck tape if your tubing is small enough... Make sense?

Absolutely! Thanks!

Wonderful idea! I have the tubing. I have a 55 gallon aquarium so, that is on hand. I just have to round some thing to hold the water.

I made my bator out of a 10g aquarium. I just fill the bottom of the tank with water and dont worry about a dish. I am also on my first hatch. I made the bator myself and hope all goes well. the temp in the middle is the only one i could get to 100 degrees, so i placed my eggs in the middle, in front of that thermometer. I have 4 eggs in it, just set them last night.

Buying an incubator would hurt me. Lol I'm a builder and I do it mostly from scrap. Non- working wine coolers are my favorite. I didn't even know those two websites. Chuckle. I do like the old redwood cabinet bators by leahy. They rock.

A bator being inconsistent especially little foam ones, can be a product of room temperature variance, sun coming in even for an hour can affect room and their stability. The room with the steadiest temp is the place you want it. Even temps and steady airflow matter to smaller bators.

Cool! I'm interested in making my own cabinet incubator for next yeat. I'm not going to make it this year. Too much happening right now w/ school starting back and all these sweet chicks fixing to hatch. Good luck! Keep us posted!

My husband owns a builders supply and next year we will build a small cabinet bator. No more bouncing temps w/ these little styrofoam things. My nerves can't handle it. The LG bators weren't expensive. When I got them, I found out why. They will be promply sold when these two hatches are done. I will keep the Havo-Bator Genesis. The design makes a lot more sense and it actually works ( I lockdown in it tonight so, we'll see). Good luck building your bator. Let me know if you find a design that works. I like the Leahy Redwood bators also. Can't afford one, but like them. Keep us posted.
