First Time Incubator

Well one of my Blonde chicks didn't make it thru the night it's sad but that's the why nature intended it to be. The egg I had put in a day later has now pipped but nothing from the egg on day 22 it could be a quitter I will wait until day 25 to dispose of it unless it starts stinking. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I candled the last egg in the incubator day 24 it seems to have lost a lot of mass so I shut down my incubator and tossed the egg. I was thinking of doing an eggcropsy but I don't have the heart. Out of 11 eggs 1 infertile, 1 quitter, 9 hatched and1 chick died so I'm pretty thrilled about my first hatch.I've learned a lot, took some notes and have a few good idea's for next time.

Great hatch! I've been hatching for two years now and my first two hatches were horrible. That's when I found this site and have learned so much from fellow chicken owners. I have found logging my hatches, taking pictures, candling and eggtopsy helpful. Keep up the good work and keep on researching. Congrats on such a wonderful hatch!

Few update photos:
These are our three Buff Orpington X Barred Rock chicks.
From what I understand they are sexlinks. The female is gold faced
and the males are silver faced.



These two are Buff Orpington X Red Sex-link.



I believe that these three are all pure bred Buff Orpingtons.

So, they are all about a week old now and are already starting to get some feathering
on their wings.
