My little Red Cochin Bantam went broody two weeks ago and stopped sitting on the few eggs she'd gathered under her, she's moved and is now sitting on two of her own and two of our little Mille Fleur girl. She's been sitting for a week plus a couple days now. We took the other eggs (Barred Rock) away from her. We marked the four eggs she's on and take the others every day. Seems the other girls like where she's sitting and lay there too. Red gathers their eggs under her to sit on too.

Took an LED Flashlight last night and checked the eggs - they're a week old and three out of the four have growth in them, couldn't really see anything in one of the eggs, but I'm going to check again in a few days. She's such a sweet girl and not fussy at all except vocally when you check her eggs.

Very eggcited!

My little Ruby (red Cochin Bantam) is also a fantastic broody. She started up today on 7 eggs - so in 3 week she will be running around with chicks!

I love a broody!

You might want to fix her area so the other hens bug her less - a screen in front of her area would help. Be sure to offer her food and water.

I've been giving her food and she gets up to stretch her legs and fusses the entire time she's out of the house. She's a hoot, can't wait to see her babies

two more weeks!

That's really great. Funny how she'll let them lay eggs in her nest then sit on them. I think they are taking advantage of her! Just kidding! Have fun and take pictures when you little hen becomes a Mom!

Oh they probably are taking advantage of her. I had a laugh at one of the roosters expense last night when he tried to get fresh with Faceballs (my Mille Fleur hen). She turned around and bowed up at him. He was like uh...wait a second....he backed away from her real quick-like

Congratulations! My BA hen is also broody - setting on 4 eggs. I haven't been allowed to check her eggs, she's gaurding with her entire body. She lays all over them, you cannot see an egg until she takes a quick yard break. This is a first hatch-out try for both she & I, so I don't touch her nest or eggs.

Well the one pipping didn't make it

It was upside down with the pip hole where its beak was showing facing down. I think the poor little thing suffocated

.

The other three are eating though, haven't ventured to the water though, so I'll put it back in there tomorrow.

I'm happy for the hatching of the three we have, sad that the last Mille Fleur didn't make it
