Hi everyone! I'm Jenn and I'm from Northern Illinois! I got 7 sweet chicken babes sort of on a whim. My sister suggested that I raise them in a brooder for her flock, but my skin puppies (kids) fell in love almost immediately and now I'm a chicken mother too. We have a silver laced polish, fabulous buff cochin, rustic rock, black sexlink, two white leghorns (leggy blondes), and a california white. I had no idea these birds are so affectionate, and that they have such personality! The more I read about these smart little birds, the more I fall in love with them every day! I think my favorite thing is how they turn their head to the side and look you dead in the eye. So, my goal is #1, to keep them alive happy. Might need some help. I have already turned to this community for answers online about 1K times in the past month, so grateful to be a part of such a wise and caring community!

Welcome to BYC!
Have you started building a coop yet? They grow fast!
I have my husband working on one now. He's being a good sport. I did help make a chicken trailer too, the girls are in it right now! 🤗

Hello Jenn, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

That's very tiny for your flock when they are grown. And the chicken wire will not protect them from any predators. It will only keep the chickens inside and nothing out. You might want to upgrade to 1/2" hardware cloth.
I hope your coop and your permanent run are much larger! With lots of ventilation.
