I have seen fox on two different days about 200 yards from my house. We back up to the boonies.
Last year I lost all my chickens to a predator(s) and I thought it was hawks. But after seeing these fox go trapsing in broad daylight and coming from the direction of the coop, I think it was them.
What is the best way to get rid of them. I am not that good of a shot although I have tried. But I don't have time to sit all day and wait for them.
Do live traps work, or not really?

I need help please!!!

Get a scent deterrant...havent ever used one, but it supposed to keep away fox, squirrels, deer...etc....

I hear you can 'mark' your own territory against fox and coyotes...

I live in the city so have had no need to try this, but I say go out at night when no one can see you drop your drawers.... and mark away! LOL

I would try anything I think, just to either prove or disprove a theory...

hee hee. If you do try it, tell me if it works...OR...Have the MEN in your house do it, guys usually think its fun to pee outside. LOL

...My husbands father has a big husky mix and she chases the fox right out...They brush her and put her hair around the property and in their gardens....they say it keeps the critters away.
She caught a fox once and it wasnt pretty- she killed it with one shake....ended up catching mange from the darn thing!!!!

good luck,
e

I used to say that you couldn't catch a fox in live trap. But I took a few in my live traps this year. The smallest trap was 15x15. Fox urine and feathers may get him to go into the trap.
You might see if you can get a local trapper to remove them for you? He may want to wait until late fall though.

put electric fence around your coop

You can't trap and kill them all, but electric fence will make them move on to find dinner somewhere else.

I have the coop secure enough that they haven't gotten any chickens, but I can't let them out now either.
I am hatching out some geese, peacock and ducks and I don't think they are going to be ok being penned all the time.
These fox were by the house during daylight hours. That's pretty bad.
