I have 8 girls that are about 10 weeks old. Noticed the last couple days that my cuckoo maran will make a weird clucking noise. Almost sounds like a goose honking. Doesn't always do it, just every now and then. Are they like kids and as they get older the voice changes. Also noticed my SLW making different sounds as well.

Not sure how you mean. I've got a funny image in my head of a chicken really honking now!

Yes, the sounds they make definitely change. From peeping to a little like a honking sound to something sort of normal to normal sounds. Keep in mind that different breeds tend to make different sounds. But the loud sounds like when egg laying are pretty much the same.

One of my RIR's was up all night making a honking like noise. I went to check on her three times just to make sure no animals were bothering them. She is never up at night, do you think she is sick?

When our baby chicks started making "chicken" noises (as opposed to chick peeping noises), all the girls were quite surprised, even the one that made the noise. New noises aren't necessarily a sign of distress. If you have different breeds, they'll have different mannerisms.

One of our hens stopped eating early on, and you could tell she was in distress as she had her feathers fluffed and was very lethargic.

I have a silkie that has made that honking noise since I got her as a baby!! It's so strange she sounds completely different from my other silkies. I just assumed it's her voice since she's done it since she was a baby. She's healthy she just honks.its very strange. I've never had a silkie make that kind of vocal sound before. She sounds like a goose. I guess it's just her voice . She's about 6 months old now and has been honking since she was 5 weeks (when I got her) I just came to except that she honks. It was shocking when I first heard it but now I'm used to it. I imagine that's just the way she sounds. I don't know why..it's very strange and I always know it's her when I hear the honk..

I cant help but laugh ..
