I have a broody hen sitting on 9 eggs. Assuming they hatch - I have some pretty random questions.
Counting the broody hen, I have 11 hens and one rooster. They usually free range. Their coop is pretty small. I have three nest boxes.
When will Roadrunner (the broody) take her chicks outside for the first time?
Separating Roadrunner from the other chickens can't happen - will the other hens attack the chicks? Roadrunner is the smallest hen I have, if it matters. She is somewhat near the top of the pecking order.

The chicken door is 1 foot off the ground with a pretty awful "ladder" (I didn't build this coop.) that the hens fly up to get in. I really, really doubt a chick can use it. Should I make a ramp so they can get in and out?
Will chicks choke on things like pine needles?
Silly questions, ik, but I don't want something easily preventable happening to the chicks.
