Hello.

Eleven baby chickens (cornish cross) were sneezing for two days and they are only 10 days old. What might have caused it, was a 4 days old bedding. Also chickens are staying under IR light, surrounded by cardbox, top is opened for air ventilation.

Symptoms: Shaking head when sneezing, diarrhea (that was gone after I've replaced bedding 12 hours ago), I don't recognize any other symptoms such as running nose etc.

Treatment plan: They are in a new bedding, and a new card box. They have spent few hours outside on the sun and fresh air. Currently are getting water with added small amounts of ginger, garlic, homemade natural apple vinegar and nettle. Tomorrow I'll also few drops of organic honey into the mix.

They do seem to be better now, energy wise and don't cough as much. Perhaps it will just pass.

If it’s happening inside when they scratch at the bedding, or when they are eating it may just be dust particles bothering them in the moment. You want to watch for this behavior when they’re not around anything dusty, like if they’re doing it when free ranging.

Sneezing by itself isn’t a cause for alarm as it’s not always associated with a disease. What kind of bedding material are you using? It sounds like the bedding is dusty and causing the sneezes. I personally, wouldn’t worry about it unless more symptoms show up.

For bedding I am using, dried grass. However they do sneeze when they are outside as well. Chicks didn't lose any apatite and their energy levels are pretty much the same, which is good.
