Howdy I live in florida around Tampa and I was thinking about showing my rooster at the Dade City Fair so i have many questions.

1. how do i go about doing this?finding out the qualitifcations, etc?

2. Would a broken toe ruin his chances?

3. Is there such thing as showing off roosters(or hens) at county fairs?

4. what can i do to win?

5. will it cost me anything?

6. do Bantam Barred Rocks have a chance?

7. is it a week long thing? and do i leave them over night or bring them home?

and anything else is much appreciated!

Contact the show organizers, I found the Dade City florida Web site, but it did not have a "Fair" on its calendar, so I couldn't help. It is not on the list of APA shows so my guess is your bird will need to be tested (they might offer that on site, and there maybe a small entry fee).

1. Since this is not an APA show, it will depend on the judges. In a APA show that would only be a 1 point deduction, unless is was truly malformed.

Not even sure what this questions means. DO country fairs have live stock exhibits, yes.

4. what can i do to win?
Make your bird as pretty as possible, bath it, hard feathered birds at least 3 days prior, soft feathers, you can wash the day before. Get baby oil and rub a light coat on its waddles, comb and legs. Cut its toe nails so it doesn't scratch judge bad. Hard feathered birds, get a can of Afro Sheen and spray a light coat on the bird, several hours before show , wipe excess off with a clean absorbent cloth. Give the bird pedolyte instead of water at the show. Shows are stressful , that why many birds start looking and acting lethargic. Judges test for alertness.

5. will it cost me anything?
Usually does, not much though

6. do Bantam Barred Rocks have a chance?
All birds have a chance. If this was an APA show, you could look up the standards, the county fairs I have seen , its more like a beauty show. Clean your bird, help him put his best foot forward and he could have a chance.

7. is it a week long thing? and do i leave them over night or bring them home?
Usually leave them there. The poultry portion may not be for the entire week either , check with the show organizers.
