if I free range during the day will they go back in their pen at night when they're older, just received 5 babies born 8/17/15 I am going to let them run around with me outside and get them used to me, and my son wants to know how old till they start gobbling thanks

Congrats! They are super cute just a few days old, (well so far, I still think mine are super cute). Mine are about 7.5 weeks old now and I do let them free range, but only when I'm home. So, I think you should train them gradually increasing their yard time until you are comfortable they will return. But if you keep their food and water in the coop it should be pretty easy. I think they develop an inherent ability to figure out where home is.

I'm a first time turkey mom too! Got my first turkey at the end of April, worked into letting him outside gradually (supervised). He's now almost 5 months and goes into the pen when I call him now. He was bit of a late bloomer based on what I've read, and didn't gobble until recently. It's absolutely adorable when they figure out how to gobble, strut and display! He was so darn cute that I got some more, born at the beginning of August. They are still "contained" most of the time and go outside for short supervised periods. I'm hoping they'll be as easy as my older one to put to bed at night.

I just love having turkeys so far! They have such personalities.

What kind are yours ? I have a standard bronze and 4 bourbon reds.
