First Time Turkeys

I mean this in the nicest way possible... How do you know it's not near you?
@casportpony I hate to say this, but the only way I've found to know for sure is to try it. Not my first choice, but when I got started I talked to my extension agent, my local vets, the department of agriculture and the state vet. I got answers from "definitely no not in your area" to "definitely yes certainly its in your area." Finally, I found a vet (not an avian vet) here on BYC that lives close to me and raises turkeys and chickens together. She helped me understand the risks and mitigation approaches if I was to have it and I jumped in with both feet.

Safest approach is to keep chickens and turkeys separate, but not an option for me, so I rolled the dice and lucked out. I've had friends just down the road not so lucky.

So for the OP just know, if you keep them together it's a gamble.
