I agree, whatever method works for you. I have done both and have no real preference. However, whatever method you use, be deliberate and forceful. When I was much younger, my Grandfather taught me how to dispatch a bird. The first time I did it on my own, I couldnt bear the idea of killing this poor bird. When I did bring down the hatchet, it was a weak attempt that only injured the chicken. He grabbed the hatchet, cut through the bird and into the wood. I was shocked. But I get it now; to humanely kill the chicken, you have to kill it quickly. To kill quickly, you have to be willing to use some strength and cut deeply. Kind of a paradox isnt it. If you want to humanely end its life, you have to be willing to apply significant force quickly.
