First time with a broody! Help!

I candled them and saw nothing and they did not float in water so I think they will be ok. I will crack in a bowl first before cooking it though!
I decided to move her to another box with the new eggs since she was in the favorite box of the hens. Maybe there will be less traffic in the new box. I moved the eggs and then put her in the box and she settled right down like it was the same box. Hopefully she will stay there.

Well, this is not going so well! My hen has been sitting on the new eggs for 3 days yesterday, and I went in to check on her and one egg was missing and one was cracked! The other eggs laid earlier in the day by other hens in a nearby box were gone! I'm thinking we have a snake. Great! So now the poor girl is down to 4 eggs and I am scared to go out there.

I'm sorry to hear that.
Make sure the nest and eggs are clean. You could try putting some wire up and removing it only for 20 or so minutes a day.

I put a golf ball in the coop and the snake ate it yesterday! I am hoping that is the end of him. My girl is still laying on 4 eggs and this is day 9 so I plan to candle them tomorrow.

Ok, here's the latest if anybody is still following! lol!
I went out to feed the hens a couple days ago and my sitting hen got up to eat. While she was out another hen went in and broke 2 eggs! I believe she did it on purpose! One was a total loss and the other cracked. I put some liquic bandaid on it but a couple days later it smelled rotten so out it went. I tried to move the hen to a place where nobody would bother her but she would not lay on the eggs. SO, I put her back in the old nest with her 2 remaining eggs, which I candeled and they have movement! I guess we will see! I think I am done with trying to use a broody.

I know, broody hens can be so irritating!

I just had two break-up a few days into being broody because of predators and I had another hatch 1 eggs in 5. Now I have a Red Star that is broody in a cardboard box and my silkie broody and I'm going to attempt to raise some Orloffs under her.
Every year I find something else that can go wrong. But my broodies just won't stop trying, and eventually I hope to reach the point where I can finally find how to do it without any problems. If that is possible.

Best of luck with your two eggs!

Good news, the 2 eggs hatched!!!! Never saw the snake again, so I'm guessing he died from eating the golf ball. I put 2 more balls in but they are still there. Yesterday was hatching day and I kept going out to check and heard a peep. Several hours later went out and saw pipping and black ants were all over them! I got scared the ants would kill them so put ditomaceous earth around in the box and tried to remove some ants. Thankfully that solved the ant problem, along with some ant spray under the box where ants were coming in. All afternoon I waited and nothing so I thought maybe they were not going to hatch. This morning I went out and 2 little fluffy chicks are under the hen and she looks so proud!! I moved her and the babies to my chick cage which is built on to the main cage. I put wire up to keep her in there with them and she is sitting on them now. Also put food and water in with her. Since the babies are too little to climb up and down the plank, I'm wondering how this will work! I know she is not goint to want to stay in there forever. The coop is secure, nothing can get in or out, but I don't know what to do about opening up the wire so she can come and go.
