I am very new to this but am very excited. We bought 5 chicks and 2 ducks about 2 weeks ago and so far they are doing great!

I am using a spare room in my garage as their coop and then cutting a door for them to go out to my backyard in a covered run area.

Here is my question:
The floor in the room is concrete, do I need to put anything down to cover the concrete? Or can I just keep the concrete as I imagine it would be easier to clean?

If I do need to do some sort of covering I was thinking river sand, but have noticed some people use lenolium or laminate flooring. The run area that they will have access to all day is soft dirt and weeds.

Thank you in advance for your help, I will post pictures are I take them.

You can use the concrete. I have one building that has a concrete floor. Just put some bedding down to keep the feces from gluing itself to the concrete. I use pine shavings but sand would work too. It's so humid here that I'm afraid the sand would freeze solid in winter.
There won't be any weeds in the run after a couple days.
